Katie Thies Dance Theatre is a London-based contemporary dance theatre company. Ktdt was officially formed in 2006 out of the independant workings of choreographer Katie Thies and has grown to become a collaborative-based company focusing on bringing multiple mediums of art and story-telling to life in performance.

ifound a bag of nuts is a structured improvisation for 4 dancers using set solo and duet studies linked through chance directions and task-based instructions. Each dancer receives instructions prior to the performance assigning individual cues for when/how/what/where to dance. Throughout the piece cues are given at random and the performers must respond according to their instructions. It is never the same twice. Using a Cunningham-esque element of chance, i found a bag of nuts has a surprise waiting around every corner.

It is with great sorrow that I write this. One of our company members, Wan Chen Chang (McGuiness) was in a fatal cycling accident Wednesday the 24th of September 2008. Wan Chen brought so many wonderful things to all our lives. She was a fellow artist, a caring individual, and a good friend. She will be greatly missed.

Black Swan Moments: The impact of the unexpected

Based on a series of interviews revolving around unexpected change, Black Swan Moments combines contemporary dance with people's theatre to create ktdt's most powerful and profoundly human work to date. Black Swan Moments features seven dancers, an original score, and an innovative script taken from stories collected from the streets of San Francisco to the city of London.

Ellipticity

In February 2007 ktdt collaborated with Chisenhale Dance Space to produce the contemporary dance platform Ellipticity, hosting new works from emerging companies. 

Collected Movements

Collected Movements is a series of short contemporary dance pieces choreographed to the music of American sound artists The Books (www.thebooksmusic.com) created as part of Creative Space at Clarence Mews in 2006.
